Insights School Climate Survey
Grades: K–6
Provider: 7 Mindsets
Fall Administration Window: September 7, 2026-October 2, 2026
Purpose: The Insights School Climate Survey is a brief, anonymous six-item survey designed to help schools better understand students' perceptions of their school experience. Students in grades K–3 complete the survey through an illustrated, narrated format. Students in grades 4–6 respond to the same six items in a text-based format.
- “I feel safe at school.” / “I don’t feel safe at school.”
- “The rules at my school are fair.” / “The rules at my school are not fair.”
- “I’m sure my teachers care about me.” / “I’m not sure my teachers care about me.”
- “I’m sure kids in my school care about me.” / “I’m not sure kids in my school care about me.”
- “My teachers help me with schoolwork when I need it.” / “My teachers don’t help me with schoolwork when I need it.”
- “Adults in my school encourage me to work hard.” / “Adults in my school don’t encourage me to work hard.”
Privacy and District Use of Results: The Insights School Climate Survey is anonymous. Results are reported to the district at the school and grade level only and are not reported for individual students or classrooms. USD 262 will use the aggregate results to better understand students' experiences at school and identify areas of strength and opportunities to improve school climate and student support.
Opt-in: A Google Form will be sent via Infinite Campus, which allows you to opt your student in or out of the climate survey. A paper copy of the opt-in form can also be made available for parent/guardian review by contacting your child's building counselor.
Insights EE Life Skills Assessment
Grades: K–3
Provider: 7 Mindsets
Fall Administration Window: September 7, 2026–October 2, 2026
Purpose: The Insights EE (Early Elementary) assessment is designed to help schools better understand students' development of age-appropriate life skills. It is a narrated, illustrated assessment that students complete independently on a computer or tablet and takes approximately 30 minutes.
The assessment uses developmentally appropriate, performance-based activities rather than asking students to rate themselves through a traditional survey. Because the assessment is performance-based, specific assessment items are not publicly released by the provider.
Skills Assessed:
- Emotion Recognition: Students view pictures of children's faces and identify emotions such as happy, sad, angry, scared, or “just okay.”
- Social Perspective-Taking: Students listen to stories and answer questions that ask them to identify or infer a character's thoughts, feelings, or intentions.
- Social Problem-Solving: Students hear hypothetical challenging situations and answer illustrated, narrated multiple-choice questions about characters' intentions, their own goals, and possible solutions.
- Self-Control: Students complete a game-like activity involving rockets with different speeds and point values. Earning more points requires students to wait longer.
- Self-Control: Students compare pairs of shapes and indicate whether they are the same or different. Some items include brief pauses designed to create mild frustration and assess students' ability to persist.
District Use of Results: USD 262 will use results to better understand students' strengths and areas for growth related to emotion recognition, understanding others, social problem-solving, and self-control. Results may be used to help schools make decisions about student supports and instruction.

Insights LE Life Skills Assessment
Grades: 4–5
Provider: 7 Mindsets

Purpose: The Insights LE (Late Elementary) assessment is designed to help schools better understand students' development of age-appropriate life skills. It is a narrated, illustrated assessment that students complete independently on a computer or tablet and takes approximately 45 minutes.
The assessment includes developmentally appropriate activities that ask students to demonstrate their understanding and application of life skills, along with brief self-report components related to self-control and self-awareness.
Skills Assessed:
- Understanding Others: Students hear about situations involving mixed or complex emotions and identify how a person might feel. Students also listen to stories and answer questions requiring them to understand the perspectives and intentions of characters.
- Social Problem-Solving: Students are presented with age-appropriate social situations and answer questions about characters' intentions, goals, and possible courses of action. Some activities ask students to evaluate multiple possible responses to a social challenge.
- Self-Control: Students demonstrate their knowledge of effective strategies for managing emotions when they are upset.
- Self-Control: Students respond to four items about how well they believe they can regulate their own emotions.
- Self-Awareness: Students respond to four items about their perceptions of their own strengths and needs. These responses allow educators to compare students' perceptions with their performance on other portions of the assessment.

Insights MS Life Skills Assessment
Insights MS Life Skills Assessment
Grade: 6
Provider: 7 Mindsets
Fall Administration Window: September 7, 2026–October 2, 2026
Purpose: The Insights MS (Middle School) assessment is designed to help schools better understand students' development of age-appropriate life skills. The assessment includes factual questions that measure students' knowledge of life skills concepts and situational judgment activities that ask students to apply those concepts to hypothetical, real-world situations. Items are text-based with optional voice-over narration. The assessment takes approximately 25 minutes.
Skills Assessed:
- Self-Awareness: Students demonstrate their understanding of emotions and their causes, such as identifying how someone might feel in a particular situation.
- Self-Management: Students demonstrate their understanding of strategies for managing emotions and situations that may cause strong emotions, such as identifying actions that could help someone manage feelings of anger or sadness.
- Social Awareness: Students demonstrate their understanding of other people's thoughts and feelings by considering how someone might feel in a hypothetical situation.
- Relationship Skills: Students demonstrate their understanding of positive interactions and relationships, including ways to respond to disagreements with others.
- Responsible Decision-Making: Students consider options and consequences and identify constructive, responsible choices in situations such as completing a challenging school assignment.
