Report Bullying & Safety Concerns


The safety of our students and staff remains a top priority.  The ultimate safety goal of the district is for 100% of our students and staff to feel and remain safe in our schools. We encourage all safety concerns be reported so they can be promptly investigated and addressed.


JDDC Bullying (See EBC, GAAE, JCE, JDD, JGEC, JGECA, and KGC) JDDC The board of education prohibits bullying in any form by any student, staff member, or parent towards a student or a staff member on or while using school property, in a school vehicle, or at a school-sponsored activity or event. For the purposes of this policy, the term “bullying” shall have the meaning ascribed to it in Kansas law. The administration shall propose, and the board shall review and approve a plan to address bullying as prohibited herein. The plan shall include provisions for the training and education of staff members and students and shall include appropriate community involvement as approved by the board. Students who have bullied others in violation of this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including suspension and/or expulsion. If appropriate, students who violate the bullying prohibition shall be reported to local law enforcement.   USD 262 does not discriminate on the base of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or age in its programs and activities and provides equal access to the Boy Scouts and other designated youth groups.
USD 262 does not discriminate on the basis of sex in the education programs or activities that it operates, as is required by Title IX. This requirement extends to admission and employment. Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the district’s Title IX Coordinator, to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, or both.

The Crime Stoppers in Schools program in Sedgwick County has created the Speak Up! program, which allows students, staff, and parents the ability to send anonymous tips through a secure website or smartphone app. USD 262 students have the ability to provide anonymous tips to keep schools safe by using text messaging and/or through a secure web link to P3 Tips. All messages are encrypted and routed through secure servers to protect the sender. Whether sending a text or online tip, the user is given an alias and a unique ID before the message is sent to the Speak Up Coordinator. This allows the user and the coordinator to have a two-way dialog without revealing the sender’s identity. The funding for the service is provided by Crime Stoppers of Wichita/Sedgwick County.

There are three ways to submit an anonymous tip:

- Click Submit a Tip to be taken directly to a secure tip reporting website.
- On your smartphone, download the free P3 Tips app from the App Store or - Google Play. Then, follow the onscreen prompts to submit your tip.

Kansas Bureau of Investigations Suspicious Activity Report (SAR)

The Safe and Secure Schools Unit with the Kansas State Department of Education is excited to announce the launch of a new reporting tool for school and community safety.  The Unit has been working in collaboration with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to release the Suspicious Activity Report (SAR).  The SAR does not take the place of calling 911 in an immediate emergency. Rather, it is intended for students, staff, parents, and community members to report suspicious activity.  The KBI receives the report and reviews, analyzes, and acts on the information accordingly.  For tracking purposes, the applicant is given a receipt number but the report remains anonymous if the user wishes. The SAR can be accessed at

Student Conflict/Bullying Concerns:

A district anti-bullying task force was created to continually assess the district’s practices, policies, and procedures regarding bullying.  The task-force created a brochure about the methods used to address student conflict/bullying in Valley Center Schools. You can view this brochure here.    

Should you have concerns regarding student conflict/bullying, please access the on-line reporting tool next to the appropriate school. An e-mail notification is sent to the building's principal immediately so he/she can address the situation.

The Kansas State Department of Education, in partnership with Kansas Children’s Service League, has a Bullying Prevention Hotline. This free, anonymous service is available to provide counsel and resources to those who have questions or concerns about bullying situations.  The 24-hour hotline can be reached at 1-800-332-6378 (or 1-800-CHILDREN). Other Safety Concerns:

Additionally the Kansas School Safety Hotline can be used to report potential violent acts at schools. Students and/or parents who have concerns of school violence can call the hotline that is manned by the Kansas Highway Patrol. The KHP contacts school district personnel to inform them of the concerns. The hotline number is 1-877-626-8203.
