We are a growing, 5A school district proudly serving the communities of Valley Center, Park City, Kechi, and Wichita. Home of the Hornets, our district is built on strong community support and a shared commitment to excellence in education.

USD 262 offers a pre-kindergarten program, three elementary schools (grades Pre-K–3), an intermediate school (grades 4–5), a middle school (grades 6–8), and a 5A high school (grades 9–12) to more than 3,200 students. The district also provides virtual and adult learning opportunities through The Learning Center, which helps students of all ages earn their high school diplomas. Our strong partnerships with post-secondary institutions prepare students for college, career, and military pathways after graduation.

Hello and Welcome to USD 262, Valley Center Public Schools!

As a former student, assistant principal, principal, current parent, and now superintendent, I can honestly say USD 262 is a premier school district. We strive to provide the best opportunities for our students while holding onto our small town values and giving our students the best education possible.

In this district, our Hornet community is the key to our success and the support our district receives is second to none. In addition, our award-winning teachers and staff are committed to providing our students with the best, most well-rounded education possible. Mr. Greg Lehr

About Mr. Lehr

After graduating from Valley Center High School in 1996, Mr. Lehr received his bachelor's degree in education from Kansas State University in 2002, his master's degree in school leadership from Baker University in 2008, and his district-level licensure from Emporia State University in 2020.

Mr. Lehr has broad educational experience. He began his teaching career as a teacher and coach at Garden City High School from 2002 to 2004, was a teacher and coach at Hesston High School from 2004 to 2005, and was a coach and teacher at Newton High School from 2005 to 2010. In 2010, Mr. Lehr rejoined the district he graduated from when he became assistant principal of Valley Center Middle School. From 2013 to 2022, he was principal of Valley Center Intermediate School. In 2022, he briefly left USD 262 when he was selected as Superintendent of Schools for USD 439, Sedgwick Public Schools. During his time at Sedgwick, Mr. Lehr has been involved with a $13.8 million bond project, developed a strategic plan, and updated business and employee systems. He has also served on the Ark Valley Special Education Cooperative's Executive Board alongside the superintendents from the Burrton and Valley Center school districts.

On May 5, 2023, the Board of Education selected Mr. Lehr to serve as Superintendent of Schools for USD 262 Valley Center Public Schools.

Title I Information

Dear Parent or Guardian:

The Federal law known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires parents be informed when their child attends a Title I school.

This letter is to inform you that four district schools, Valley Center Intermediate, Abilene Elementary, West Elementary, and Wheatland Elementary all are School-Wide Title I schools for the 2024-2025 school year.

Each of these schools receives federal funds from the Title I program. The funds provide additional support to students in qualifying schools. As a requirement of receiving these funds, each year the district must provide parents with information on their rights. These rights include:

Parents may request the professional qualifications of their child’s classroom teachers.
Parents may ask if their child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
Information on the level of achievement of their child in each state academic assessment.
Timely notice if their child has been taught for more than four consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
Information regarding annual progress of your child’s school.

State assessment results show our Title I buildings have students who work at or above the state averages in both math and reading. We use this data, along with data from local assessments, to target Title I resources proportionally to the areas that most need assistance.

We encourage you to participate in your child’s learning by becoming actively involved at his/her school. Please contact the school to find ways you can become involved.

USD 262 does not discriminate on the basis of sex in the education programs or activities that it operates, as is required by Title IX. This requirement extends to admission and employment. Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the district’s Title IX Coordinator, to the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights, or both.

Complaints regarding alleged discrimination on the basis of sex, as prohibited by Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and other federal and state laws regulating such discrimination and discriminatory harassment, shall be handled in accordance with the procedures outlined in board policies GAAC and JGEC and shall be directed to the Title IX Coordinator.

Title IX Overview

USD 262 Formal Complaint Procedures No investigation of alleged sexual harassment may occur until after a formal complaint has been filed. A formal complaint is a document filed by the complainant or signed by
the Title IX Coordinator alleging sexual harassment and requesting an investigation.
The procedures for filing a formal complaint are as follows:
• At the time of filing a formal complaint, a complainant must be participating in or attempting to participate in the education program or activity of the district concerning which the formal complaint is filed.
• A formal complaint should be filed in writing and contain the name and address of the person filing the complaint. The complaint should briefly describe the alleged violation. Filing of the complaint with the Title IX Coordinator may be done in person, b y mail, or by email. If an individual does not wish to file a written complaint, and the matter has not been adequately resolved, the Title IX Coordinator may initiate the complaint. Forms for filing written complaints are available in each school building office and the central office.
• A complaint should be filed as soon as possible after the conduct occurs, but not later than 180 calendar days after the complainant becomes aware of the alleged violation, unless the conduct forming the basis for the complaint is ongoing.

Any employee who witnesses an act of sexual harassment or receives a complaint of harassment from another employee or a student shall report the complaint to their immediate supervisor, building administrator, or Title IX Coordinator.

Complaints received will be investigated to determine whether, under the totality of the circumstances, the alleged behavior constitutes sexual harassment under the definition outlined above. Unacceptable conduct may or may not constitute sexual harassment, depending on the nature of the conduct and its severity, pervasiveness, and persistence. Behaviors which are unacceptable but do not constitute harassment may also result in employee discipline.
